wake up babe new blog just dropped
well hello!!!! if you have found this page you are probably giving it a cursory glance after i posted excitedly about it on my instagram story, or maybe you're looking for some of my other writing and you've gotten lost. either way, welcome! i've been wanting to get a Bona Fide Writer Blog up and running for foreeeeverrrrr, and i suppose the illustrious year of 2024 CE is the time.
i was planning on having this just be a substack, but i was scouring my bookmarks from toolkits digital storytelling 2021 and i stumbled upon everest pipkin's tiny tools directory. from there i hit up the "writing" tag, on the hunt for some handy poetry tools, and from there i found... bear.
so what am i planning on writing about here...??? well i'm glad you asked :^)
1. FLASH IN THE PAN: A Flashpoint Retrospective
since the death of flash in december 2020, immense community efforts have been made to archive flash media that would've otherwise been lost to time. enter flashpoint archive, a beautiful testament to the power of archival passion, designed to be a working archive of all flash animations and games that is free to download and play. one of my favourite hollow knight youtubers mentioned it offhandedly on a video about team cherry's forgotten games, and ever since i've been FROTHING at the mouth to play all the flash games of my childhood. i hope to play and review/gush about/analyse/critique/mourn the flash games i loved as a kid, and hopefully to encourage more people to use flashpoint archive.
2. NON-WHITE LITERATURE
my 2024 resolution was to "engage in more things made by non-white artists". so far i've been doing an ok job of it, and i've been wanting to talk about all of the stuff i've been reading/watching/listening to. get out was excellent but also kinda ableist. zami had a slow start but spoke to me across decades. ride or die has gay people.
3. OTHER SHIT
and literally any other stuff i wanna put here that is messy or unpolished or stream of consciousness or whatever that i still want to be out there on the internet! this may include poetry, prose, nonfic... and it may also include lil personal reflections on what's going on in my incredibly interesting life.
and y'all, i am so excited for this blog. i am sooooo so so so so excited!!! i've picked bear as a blog hosting site to get away from all of the stress of analytics and webpage design, as a little part of the internet carved out just for me, and because quite frankly the lil bear emoticon upon loading up the website was so darn cute.the text editor is bare bones and accessible. the UI is stress-free and refreshingly straightforward. it feels like a perfect place to dump my feelings/thoughts/opinions/recommendations/complaints - and without all the pressure to get As Many Eyes On It As Possible! yet another common indie web developer W.
there's so much on the horizon that i want to talk about! i am so excited to do it all.
